About Jackie and

Since my teens I have held a fascination for the mechanics, or the anatomy and physiology (A&P), of the physical body, and a respectful regard of physical pursuits.  I first tried yoga in 1998, I've been a regular and dedicated practitioner since 2004 and started taching in 2015.

I completed my 200 hr teacher training with YogaCampus, also studying the natural processes of ageing and ways in which yoga can safely alleviate common symptoms through it's ability to strengthen, refresh, revitalise, restore and relax both the body and mind.

I consider teaching yoga to be a privilege and strive to teach with sensitivity, encouraging people to make their own connections and understandings and I am always inspired when I see people discover relationships between their bodies and minds as yoga gently begins to expose connections on levels other than anatomical.

I have experience teaching active seniors, our more frail seniors, stroke survivors, post surgery, M.S., those with sensory impairment, arthritis, osteoporosis, Parkinson's Disease, hip and knee joint replacements, diabetes, 'bad backs', peripheral neuropathy and learning difficulties.

I took a 30 hr intensive, The Application of Yoga as Therapy, in 2014 under one of the world's foremost ambassadors of yoga, Doug Keller.

I certified with Special Yoga, in 2016, to teach Special Yoga for Adults where I witnessed yoga communicate with people in ways I could not have imagined possible.  It was a profound and humbling experience, and one which deeply reinforced my faith in yoga.  More recently, I took the Foundation Course for Special Children and then Level 1 Children with Special Needs, again, with Special Yoga.

I am a certified CIMPSA recognised Senior Fitness Specialist.

I hold 50 hr, and 100 hr, training certifications for Yin, Pranayama, Mindfulness and Meditation with the Shanti Atma School.

I have trained with Special Yoga and Breath Body Mind to offer breathing techniques to soothe anxiety.

I am based in North London and for 4 years had the privilege of holding weekly over 60's donation based class for AgeUK Waltham Forest

helping to raise money for the charity.

I jumped at the chance to assist Special Yoga teacher, Richard Kravetz, at his classes for Sense.

I hold a Level 1 Reiki (2000) and am fully qualified (Nat BTec 1990) and insured to massage.  Through training in massage my fascination for the body's mechanics were transformed into a more comprehensive understanding.  Studying A&P, and being able to get a sense of the body through my hands enables me to 'viscerally see' the internal structures that facilitate movement: I'm keenly interested in natural functional movement patterns and somatics (I have also trained with Align Somatics). Yoga helps me to explore my curiosity of the profound connections of anatomical structures throughout the human body, with the nervous system and the mind, and spirit…

I believe we can relieve and reverse some stiffness, and chronic aches and pains, by training the body and mind out of unhealthy patterns using relaxation, neuromuscular techniques, and introducing new healthy movement patterns to release habitual tension and stress.
